Mossley continued their pre season build up with a comfortable 6-1 victory over former North West Counties League rivals Glossop.
Mossley included former Rochdale and Leigh RMI goalkeeper James Mann but he didn't receive a severe test against a Glossop side who's final ball was poor all night and Hillmen record scorer Gary Kharas was barely a threat at all.
Mossley took until the 30th minute to opening the scoring having earlier been denied by the acrobatics of visitors keeper Stuart Williams. Josh Howard's mazy skills outwitted his marker and his cross was struck first time by Wes Wilkinson who's effort was well saved by Williams only for Melford Knight to poach the rebound from ten yards.
The lead was doubled eight minutes later. Adam Morning caught his marker in possession and crossed low for Chris Downey to finish clinically.
Mossley made numerous changes at the interval, Chrsitian Cooke proved equally effective at left back as he did on the right, while Nicky Thompson, a steady midfielder in the first half was a dependable right back in the second. Phil Denney and Rhodri Giggs took over from Wes Wilkinson and Chris Downey leading the line with Wilkinson replacing Morning on the left wing. While Jordan Goodeve replaced Thompson in midfield.
The numerous changes didn't affect Mossley's attacking flow though, as they repeatedly opened the Glossop defence. Josh Howard scored a quick double on 50 and 53 minutes. The first one saw Wilkinson's left wing corner pulled back for the Mossley midfielder to scream a 'daisycutter' past a motionless Williams from the corner of the box. Giggs made Josh Howard's second when he broke down the right for the irrepressable Howard to slot home. Mossley substitute Paul Murphy conceded a foul on the edge of the Mossley box and one time Mossley trialist Lee Blackshaw curled home an excellent free kick to give Glossop some consolation, but, Mossley weren't finished. Wilkinson had an effort ruled out for an impossible off-side before Howard orchestrated Mossley's fifth goal on 81 minutes when his run and low cross from the right was knocked home by the onrushing Phil Denney.
The scoring was completed when Jordan Goodeve broke down the left and crossed for Josh Howard to complete his hat-trick against his home town club with virtually the last kick of the game.
